Local Author/Editor Releases Nonfiction Book for New Writers

After more than a decade of editing novels, Elk Rapids-based author and editor Karin Beery has released her first nonfiction book dedicated to helping new novelists improve their stories. She wrote the book to help the many authors who contact her but are unable to hire her for financial reasons.

"As an author, I know how expensive it is to hire editors," Beery said. "I learned to write as well as I could by reading books, taking classes, and attending conferences. But even when I thought I'd mastered it, publishers rejected my stories because the writing wasn't good enough. I hired one editor for my first book, but I soon discovered I needed several rounds of editing, and I couldn't afford that."

As a fiction editor, she also knows the most common issues new novelists struggle with. Combining her experiences as author and editor, she wrote How to Edit Your Novel: Practical Tips for Strengthening Your Story. Beery explains that, "This book focuses on the fundamentals authors need to succeed, but the goal isn't to learn how to write better. The goal is to train authors to think like editors so they can find and fix many of their own problems, which will help them write better stories that require less editing in the future."

Beery's editing motto is "Turning good manuscripts into great books," and she hopes her newest book will train other authors to do that with their own stories.

How to Edit Your Novel: Practical Tips for Strengthening Your Story is available now on Amazon or from Bold Vision Books.

"Karin Beery is one of the top editors in the business. I am impressed with her work and care for her customers. Her book How to Edit Your Novel, reflects that as she walks the readers through each step of making their books excellent."

~Kathy Bruins, ghostwriter, publisher, and founder of The Well Ministry for Creatives
