Job Title: Library Page

 

Position Overview: The Library Page at the Elk Rapids District Library provides essential support for daily library operations, including sorting and shelving materials, assisting patrons at the circulation desk, and maintaining the organization of library spaces. This role is ideal for a responsible, detail-oriented individual who enjoys working in a community-focused environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Shelving & Organization:

  • Sort, shelve, and organize books, media, and other materials according to library standards.
  • Ensure materials are accurately organized on the shelves and assist with shelf reading to maintain order.

Circulation Desk Assistance:

  • Greet patrons with a friendly and engaging demeanor, creating a welcoming atmosphere and making each visitor feel valued.
  • Assist at the circulation desk by checking materials in and out, processing holds, and handling patron accounts.
  • Register new patrons and update patron profiles, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

Patron Support:

  • Help patrons locate materials within the library and assist with basic questions about library services.
  • Answer phones and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff member.

Material Maintenance:

  • Inspect the condition of materials before and after check-out, identifying any damage or missing items.
  • Organize materials for repair and manage returned items to ensure they are in good condition for circulation.

General Library Support:

  • Assist with library programs and events, providing setup, takedown, and other support as needed.
  • Perform additional tasks and assist with projects as assigned by the Library Director.

Requirements:

  • Availability during weekend hours and some evenings to support library operations and events
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good communication skills, with a friendly, helpful approach
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with common programs, ability to learn new systems
  • Dependable, with the ability to work independently and follow instructions
  • Must be able to stand, bend, lift and carry 20lbs and work (up to) a 7 hours shift. 

Details:

  • This entry level position is ideal for a student or retiree
  • Pay starts at $15.00 per hour. 
  • Schedule is Saturdays 10-3, Sundays 1-4 (extending hours in the summer) and occasional weekday work when available.
