The Music House Museum is happy to welcome the Calliope Brass ensemble with special guest Northern Lower Brass at 7:00PM, January 13, 2024 American ensemble Calliope Brass collaborates with the world’s most prominent creatives to build evocative, story-driven concert experiences. Inspired by the eponymous storytelling muse in Greek mythology, Calliope Brass is known for its innovative approach, successfully expanding upon the more traditional norm of recital-style performances. Beyond traditional concert performances, Calliope is committed to community impact. In the 2022-23 season, the ensemble partnered with CaringKind NYC, a nonprofit devoted to aiding those suffering from dementia and their caregivers, and Dances for a Variable Population, a dance nonprofit, to create With Music and Movement in Mind, a brand-new, innovative event that provided movement experiences accompanied by live music. This partnership is planned to continue in future seasons. Well-loved in the education community, Calliope Brass’s flagship educational initiative What’s Your Story? debuted during the 2018-19 season to great acclaim. Featuring a live puppet-theatre performance, student-written stories, and an original modular score written for the program by Broadway composer Kat Sherrell, What’s Your Story? has been performed at over 30 schools in NYC, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Vermont. The Northern Lower Brass Quartet is a staple of the Northern Michigan music scene. Members Richard Sunier, Kevin LaRose, Tim Willson and Jerry Young all work as professional musicians and come together for gigs like the beloved Tuba Christmas.
