Thick ice often forms in the shipping channels of the Great Lakes.  US Coast Guard ice breakers are tasked with keeping those pasage open.  Join Mark S. Gill, Director of Vessel Traffic Services for the US Coast Guard based in Sault Sainte Marie, MI to learn about the authority, purpose, and management philiosophies behind the Great Lakes ice breaking mission.
